Treasure Island

11th – 18th December 2011

The MDG this year will be producing another traditional family favourite in Treasure Island. Focussing as always on good old family entertainment with loads of audience participation a night at the MDG pantomime is sure to brighten up the darkest winter evening and leave you with a smile on your face.

Rehearsals

We normally rehearse Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, 8-10pm. Main characters will generally be needed on all three nights (although we will try to group rehearsed scenes to avoid too much hanging about where possible). Chorus members will be required for just one evening a week to start, increasing to all three as we get nearer performance time. Please make sure you are able to commit to the schedule.

Auditions Thursday 22nd September 2011

A brief outline of the roles is set out below. For a copy of the script, and details of the audition pieces, please email carol@hennwinds.me.uk.
If you are unable to attend on the 22nd, please contact either of us, to arrange an alternative date.
If you would like to be in chorus, you don’t need to formally audition, just let us know your interest (you are still very welcome to come along to say Hi, and join in with the audience participation).

Audition Notes:

JIM HAWKINS

Principal boy. Traditionally played by a female. Needs to be able to sing. The hero of the story. Looking for adventure. In love with Felicity

FELICITY TRELAWNY

Principal girl. Needs to be able to sing.
Sweet and pretty, in love with Jim.

MA HAWKINS

The Dame. Traditionally played ~ flirty, fun and larger-than-life.

LONG JOHN SILVER

The “baddie”. Needs to be fit enough to hop around on one leg for the run of the panto! (Crutch provided)

BILLY BRASS
NICKY KNUCKLES

The comedy duo. A couple of dim-witted pirates. They need to have a good rapport with the audience. Male or female.

SQUIRE TRELAWNEY

Father of Felicity. Quite likes Ma Hawkins.

FAIRY GODMOTHER

The narrator of the story …. but she is trying to do too much?
Quite traditional, but with a bit of fun.

POLLY, the PARROT

Dry, sarcastic. Spends quite a lot of time sitting on his/her perch at the front of the stage.

CAPTAIN CORKER’UN

Very attractive Captain of the ship. She’s pretending to be male, and wears a thin disguise (a moustache) to start with.

ROBINSON CRUSOE

A “James Bond” style character. Young, handsome, confident.

GIRL FRIDAY
Plus GIRLS MONDAY to THURSDAY

Crusoe’s main girl. Young and pretty.
Four more “Crusoe girls”. All five girls are dancers or singers, if possible.

MARTHA, the BARMAID

Works at the Benbow Inn. Friendly, “down to earth”.

THE BEARD SELLER

Small speaking role. One scene only (plus chorus scenes)

JOLLY ROGER
BLIND PEW
BLACK DOG

Pirates, with scripted lines (plus chorus scenes)

CHORUS

Essential cast - Inn Customers & Servers, Pirates & Sailors, some with occasional scripted lines.

Remember even if you don't want to be out there on stage in the spotlight there are always lots of back-stage and front of house jobs that are equally important when putting on a production of this size. There is a role suitable for everyone in MDG!
We'd love to see as many of you as possible. Please feel free to pass these details on to anyone else that you think may be interested - the more the merrier! If you want to audition for one of the principal roles, but can't make either of the audition dates, drop us an email and we will try to accomodate you.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
